30-June 08: 10-DIGIT LOCAL DIALING IN ALBERTA AND BC
Over the course of the next two months, Alberta and BC will implement 10-digit dialing (area code followed by the phone number) for all local calls, to accommodate the introduction of new area codes. These new codes will enable the creation of millions of new telephone numbers.
Effective July 5, 2008, you will be able to dial either seven or ten digits and the call will be connected.
As of September 8, 2008, you must dial the area code in front of the 7-digit phone number; calls made by dialing only seven digits will not be connected.
For more information on 10-digit dialing, please review our FAQs and Helpful Tips.

What is VoIP? What is PBX?
Voice Over IP (VoIP) simply refers to the practice of using the internet to transmit voice traffic. A traditional Private Business Exchange (PBX) is a costly piece of equipment which allows multiple phone users to share telephone lines with limited calling features. These systems require experts to maintain and are still common in many of today’s office environments. Learn more >
